Project Type: Awareness Video
Tools: Adobe After Effects, Google Images, Google Fonts
Haiti is a beautiful country, but it is currently facing a severe humanitarian crisis. Armed gangs control nearly 90% of Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas, acting as a de facto authority while the government and police struggle to contain them. This has left countless civilians living in fear of violence, extortion, and displacement.
Design Challenges: I wanted to bring attention to the gang violence currently happening in Haiti that many people do not know about. I wanted to grab people’s attention and pull on their heartstrings, so I created a 30-second video in After Effects that includes a link to organizations helping Haiti.
Solution: I used heartbreaking images of the current events alongside audio from the song “United in Grief” by Kendrick Lamar, mixed with the sound of Haiti’s beautiful ocean. I paired bold sans serif red text with grayscale images to create drama and tension throughout the video. I wanted viewers to feel uncomfortable, because this is not a comfortable situation.
Result: The final video successfully brought awareness to the crisis in Haiti through emotional imagery, sound, and typography. It encouraged viewers to reflect on the situation, learn more, and support organizations helping those affected.
For this project, I wanted to shine a light on the ongoing gang violence in Haiti. Using Adobe After Effects, I created a 30-second video that captures the pain and suffering endured by the people living in the capital. I believe raising awareness of this crisis is crucial, Haiti is facing a deeply serious humanitarian and human rights emergency that the world needs to see.
