Located on the western third of the island of Hispaniola, Haiti shares its border with the Dominican Republic. Rich in culture and history, Haiti is known for being the first nation of formerly enslaved people to gain independence from France in 1804.
Haiti is a beautiful country, but it is currently facing a severe humanitarian crisis. Armed gangs control nearly 90% of Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas, acting as a de facto authority as the government and police struggle to contain them — leaving countless civilians living in fear of violence, extortion, and displacement
For this project, I wanted to shine a light on the ongoing gang violence in Haiti. Using Adobe After Effects, I created a 30-second video that captures the pain and suffering endured by the people living in the capital. I believe raising awareness of this crisis is crucial, Haiti is facing a deeply serious humanitarian and human rights emergency that the world needs to see.
